The 2022 CPL champions, Jamaica Tallawahs, won’t participate in the 2024 season due to financial issues faced by their owners.
As a result, an Antigua-based franchise will take their place in the upcoming tournament, aiming to generate significant revenue.
Despite Jamaica’s absence, the CPL intends to reintroduce a Jamaica-based team in the future, possibly by 2025. Rovman Powell, the captain during Tallawahs’ previous victory, expressed disappointment, emphasizing Jamaica’s rich cricketing history.
Concerns persist regarding cricket events at Sabina Park, Kingston, and the limited CPL presence in Jamaica, highlighting the need for discussions between the cricket board and the government. The 2024 CPL season, starting in mid-August, will feature six teams from various regions, including Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, Guyana, St Kitts & Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Trinidad & Tobago.
