Pakistan’s cricket team faces mounting injury setbacks as Abrar Ahmed, the off-spinner, becomes the latest casualty ruled out of the second Test against Australia.
Following the absence of fellow spinner Noman Ali due to acute appendicitis, Ahmed, recovering from leg discomfort, remains unfit for the upcoming match in Melbourne.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) clarified that Ahmed’s ongoing recovery isn’t sufficient for the Test’s demands, hinting at a preliminary fitness test scheduled for December 25 to determine his return. With Khurram Shahzad, the promising debutant, also sidelined due to rib stress fractures and abdominal muscle tears, the team confronts further challenges.
Amidst these setbacks, Mohammad Nawaz steps in as Ahmed’s replacement. The PCB remains vigilant about the squad’s physical readiness, especially considering the demands placed on spinners in Test matches. As Pakistan strives to regroup for the second Test, these injuries have intensified concerns about the team’s preparedness and selection options moving forward in the series against Australia.
