Bangladesh claimed a resounding 26-run victory over New Zealand XI in a practice match, setting the stage for their upcoming three-match ODI series against the Black Caps.

At Christchurch’s Lincoln University ground, Bangladesh successfully defended a formidable 335-run target, restricting the home side to 308 all out in 49.2 overs.

Rishad Hossain emerged as the standout performer, delivering a stellar all-round display. Batting at number seven, his explosive 87 off 54 deliveries, studded with 11 boundaries and four sixes, was pivotal in bolstering Bangladesh’s innings.

Despite the early fall of wickets, contributions from top-order batsmen Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Soumya Sarkar set the tone with brisk fifties, propelling the visitors to a commanding 170 for two in 22.2 overs.

Rishad continued his brilliance with the ball, claiming three crucial wickets and disrupting New Zealand XI’s momentum. Skipper Bharat Popli and Sandeep Patel fought back valiantly, scoring 92 and 89, respectively, but succumbed to Bangladesh’s bowling prowess.

This comprehensive win not only highlighted Bangladesh’s batting depth but also provided a boost to their confidence ahead of the impending ODI series against New Zealand, starting on December 17 in Dunedin.
