India’s women’s cricket team scripted history with their inaugural Test victory against Australia, triumphing by eight wickets in a one-off match held at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.

Dominating proceedings, India amassed 406 runs in the first innings, securing a commanding 187-run lead. During the final day’s play, Australia struggled, collapsing at 261. India’s bowlers excelled, claiming five wickets for a mere 28 runs, with Sneh Rana, the right-arm off-break bowler, clinching two wickets in as many deliveries, earning herself the Player of the Match accolade.

Chasing a target of 75, India, led by skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, effortlessly reached the total in under 19 overs, losing just two wickets. This victory marked India’s first Test win against Australia after 11 attempts spanning from 1977.

Preceding this win, India had recently triumphed against England in another one-off Test match in Mumbai, solidifying their prowess in Test cricket. Jay Shah, Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), lauded the team’s consecutive wins, hailing their historic achievements on social media.

Expressing hope for more Test opportunities in the future, Harmanpreet Kaur expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, aiming to build on this success in forthcoming matches.
