Top five Batter with the most runs in Champions Trophy history
Chris Gayle
The Caribbean hard-hitter Chris Gayle sits on top of the pile as the most run scorer in the Champions trophy. Scoring 791 runs in 17 innings at an average of 52.73 and a strike rate of 88.72. Gayle’s highest individual score in the tournament came in 2006 when he smashed a fabulous innings of 133 runs off 135 balls against South Africa.
He has hit three centuries, which regards him as the joint-most centurion with Herschlle Gibbs, Shikhar Dhawan and Sourav Ganguly in the tournament’s history.
Mahela Jayawardene
The Sri Lankan Classic, Mahela Jayawardene holds the second position with 742 runs in 22 innings, scoring five fifties, in the Champions Trophy at an average of 41.22 and a strike rate of 84.80.
Mahela’s highest individual score came in 2013 when he hit 84 runs against Australia.
Shikhar Dhawan
Shikhar Dhawan is considered one of India’s most underrated batters in ODI format. He always paid off when the team needed him most. Scoring 701 runs in 10 innings in the Champions Trophy at an average of 77 and a strike rate of 101.6.
He guided India to their second Champions Trophy title in 2013 and snuck in as the leading run-scorer in the tournament with 363 runs.
Kumar Sangakkara
When talking about Wicket-keeper batter, Kumar Sangakkara deserves to be a talking topic. He is one of the finest Wicket-keeper batters across all formats.
Besides Mahela Jayawardene, The former Lankan Captain scored 683 runs in the Champions Trophy in 22 innings at an average of 37.54 and a strike rate of 71.96 including one century and four half-centuries.
Sourav Ganguly
Sourav Ganguly is one of India’s big names when it comes to ICC events. Throughout his career, he amassed 665 runs in the Champions Trophy across 13 innings, at an average of 73 and a strike rate of 83.
One of his best innings in the tournament came against South Africa in the semi-final of the 2000 edition, where he scored 141 runs to help India reach the final.
Virat Kohli, who played four Champions trophies in a row, is on the way to entering the list as he has already scored 651 runs.
