Manchester City marked the close of 2023 with a dominant 2-0 victory against Sheffield United.

Rodri’s early strike and Julian Alvarez’s goal secured City’s win against the battling Blades.

City’s powerful attack found success early, with Rodri seizing an opportunity from Phil Foden’s assist to notch an early goal. Foden’s impact continued, setting up Alvarez for City’s second amidst Sheffield United’s resolute defense.

The triumph highlighted City’s prowess, displaying the five major trophies won in 2023 before kickoff, reinforcing their team’s status as a formidable force. Kevin de Bruyne’s return to the squad after an extended injury uplifted spirits, although he didn’t enter the pitch.

While City secured their back-to-back league wins and a much-needed clean sheet, manager Pep Guardiola acknowledged the challenging yet rewarding festive period and expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance.

Sheffield United’s valiant effort didn’t bridge the quality gap, leaving them at the bottom of the table. Manager Chris Wilder praised the team’s determination despite the uphill battle and hinted at reinforcements in January to bolster the squad’s depth and improve their prospects in the League.
