Former Nepal Captain and Leg-Spinner Sandeep Lamichhane, who has been accused of a rape conviction, has been declared innocent by the Nepal High Court today.
Sandeep Lamichhane, Nepal’s veteran Leg-Spinner, had been facing right years imprisonment and a half-million Nepali rupee fine after being accused guilty of raping an 18-year-old unwanted woman in 2022.
Kathmandu District Court sentenced him for a rape conviction in January but today Nepal high court has overturned the district court’s decision. ‘Sandeep Lamichhane has been acquitted’, Bimal Parajuli, a spokesman for the Patan High Court, told AFP.
Sabita Bhandari Baral, a lawyer of the Player also admitted, ‘He had to be cleared and now the high court has set him free. He was not guilty of the rape case.’ she told Reuters.
Lamichhene who is a well-known Leg-spinner in the world. He played regularly in the England, India, Australia, and West Indies Franchise League. He has 98 T20 wickets and 112 ODI wickets, which is the quickest to get 100 ODI wickets in world cricket.
Now the biggest thing is he is ready to be back on national duty. Nepal’s T20 World Cup journey will start on 4 June against the Netherlands, he is now available to be included in Nepal’s T20 World Cup squad.
