The Afghanistan Cricket Board penalized three players, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Fazalhaq Farooqi, and Naveen Ul Haq, for choosing their interests over playing for Afghanistan.
These players wanted to skip their national contracts to play in other cricket leagues. As a result, their contracts for 2024 were delayed, and they won’t get permission to play in other leagues for two years.
The board said these players prioritized their careers over their country, which goes against their responsibilities as national players. A committee recommended this punishment to the board after investigating the matter thoroughly. This decision aims to remind players to prioritize their country’s interests over their own.
Mujeeb is currently playing for Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League and was recently picked by Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL. Naveen and Fazalhaq played in the Abu Dhabi T10 league after representing Afghanistan in the ODI World Cup. The board’s decision is a reminder for players to honor their commitments to their country’s cricket above everything else.
