Zimbabwe faced a formidable batting display against the visiting Afghanistan in their first innings at the Queen’s Sports Club in Bulawayo. The hosts were bowled out for 586 in their first innings despite scoring three centuries. Afghanistan is also responding with the bat.

Batsman Rahmat Shah set a precedent. Rahmat converted only his second Test century of his career into a double hundred. He is unbeaten on 231 runs with 3 sixes and 23 fours. This is the biggest innings in Tests by an Afghan batsman.
He scored the second double century in Test cricket history for Afghanistan. Captain Hashmatullah is unbeaten with Rahmat Shah. He scored 141 runs from his bat. On the third day, they put up an unbroken partnership of 361 runs for the third wicket. This is the highest partnership for Afghanistan in Tests.
These two Afghan batsmen have also achieved another great feat. This is the first time since 2019 that no team has lost a single wicket in Test cricket throughout the day.
Earlier, Zimbabwe had set a record for hat-trick centuries in their first innings. Shane Williams scored 104 runs off 176 balls. Captain Craig Ervine played an innings of 101 runs. In addition, Brian Bennett remained unbeaten on 110 runs at the end of his innings. In this, Zimbabwean batsmen scored hat-trick centuries in a single Test match.
With this, Craig Ervine and his team shared a 23-year-old feat. The last time Zimbabwean batsmen achieved such a feat was in 2001. Andy Flower’s team scored a mountain of 542 runs in their first innings against Bangladesh. Bangladesh lost to Zimbabwe by 8 wickets in that match.
